This project was started in December 2021 by Joseph Latshaw as a small project of identifying the municipal flags of his home County of Ocean. Finding gaps in the information on Flags of the World he went around to each town hall and simply asked if they has a flag and any information to go along with it.
After the initial discovery he wanted to fill in the gaps that Flags of the World has for all of New Jersey. This was a tall task that has been in the works on and off over that past few years up to the present. Along with identifying flags there is often a problem with missing basic information about the flag and its history. Such as date of adoption, who designed it and how it was designed. The Wikipedia nature of Flags of the World also impeeds true research as nothing is cited other than text or links (that are often dead). This project aims to show all evidence up front and in its original format as much a possible.
Credit should be given to past work done on this subject to by Don Healy who published Civic Flags of New Jersey in the Flag Bulletin Issue #99 pg 38-57. And by the many contributors to Flags of the World such as Dave Martucci and Valentin Poposki just to name a few.
This personal project is now in the phase of reaching out to other vexillologist in New Jersey to help in the matter and make it publically acessible for all to look at.
